The Hungarian government has initiated a referendum against the mandatory immigration quotas, since as Nézőpont Intézet’s representative poll taken during February 1-5, 2016 points out: four-fifth of Hungarians (80 percent) do not agree with the idea that refugees arriving to Europe should be distributed among the member states based on a uniform quota system.
Within those in opposition there is an overwhelming majority of those (three-fifth of those asked) who entirely reject this concept. Only 4 percent of those polled entirely agree with the re-allocation of asylum seekers based on quotas and 10 percent tend to agree with this concept. Even among leftist sympathizers more respondents reject the idea of quotas (55 percent) than the ratio of those in support (42 percent). The rejection of mandatory immigration quotas have therefore become a national issue in Hungary beyond party loyalties.
Methodology
Nézőpont Intézet’s public opinion poll was completed by telephone asking 1000 people during February 12-17, 2016. This sample is representative, pertaining to the population 18 years of age and older, classified by gender, age, region, settlement type and schooling completed. In case of 1000 people samples the maximum margin of error is 3.2 percent.
