Hungarian voters do not approve the scandalous behaviour displayed by the opposition in Parliament on Wednesday – 66 percent deem it unacceptable from Members of Parliament, according to the latest opinion poll by Nézőpont Institute. News of the scandal have reached 7 million people, and 2.5 million people have been actively following the events.
Members of the older generation in particular are upset about the behavior of opposition MPs – 76 percent have said so. This does not mean, however, that the obstruction attempts appeal to other social groups as the majority in all relevant socio-demographic groups find MPs behaving in such manner unacceptable.
There is more variation, however, according to political affinity. Almost everyone (94 percent) in the pro-government camp condemns the opposition’s actions. Although the majority (72 percent) of left-wing sympathisers have sided with their politicians, one in four left-wing voters still reject scandal politics. Jobbik’s voters are even more divided, with the majority (52 percent) condemning this behavior. It seems that the leadership’s leftist change in direction has not yet affected their voters, however, should Jobbik continue to play an active role in these actions in the future, there is a chance that the number of their supporters, already on a decline for months, will continue to drop further.
