THE RATIO OF SUPPORTERS FOR OLYMPICS HOSTING RIGHTS HAS CONTINUED TO RISE

More than half of Hungarians (53 percent) are supporting the concept that Budapest should host the Olympics – as a public opinion telephone poll by Nézőpont Intézet indicated during 14-19 November 2015, by asking 1000 people. Hosting the Olympics was supported only by 40 percent of respondents in August of last year, while the ratio of supporters increased to 49 percent this past July. While the percentage of supporters has steadily risen, the ratio of those opposing such hosting rights has declined from 50 percent recorded last year in August to 42 percent this past July, and now to 36 percent.

The most apparent change has occurred in the determination of the most committed supporters and/or opponents. While this year in November nearly every third voting citizen (31 percent) fully supported the idea and only every fifth rejected it unequivocally (19 percent), last Summer this ratio was the reverse. At that time, only 17 percent was in full support and 29 percent categorically rejected the idea of hosting.
